March 2015 Newsletter

Coastside Democrat
Its time to spring forward with the Coastside Democrats. We are planning some exciting events this year starting with our March meeting and we hope you can join us.

March Membership Meeting will be on Sunday March 22 from 3pm to 6pm

The General Membership meeting will be at the historic Fog Signal Building of the Point Montara Lighthouse. Please observe the instructions for safe access to the Lighthouse. Parking is extremely limited, so please arrange to walk, bike or carpool there.

Our public interest topic is:

Open Space and Parks for the Coastside
We will examine the challenges facing our parks and open space here on the Coastside and throughout the county. Our panel discussion, moderated by Rick Hernandez, will include these knowledgeable presenters:

  • Larry Hassett, Director, Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District
  • Julia Bott, Executive Director, San Mateo County Parks Foundation
  • Walter Moore, President, Peninsula Open Space Trust
  • Brian Holt, Senior Planner, East Bay Regional Parks & Coastside resident

Light refreshments will be provided. Please invite your interested friends and family to join us (but remember to walk, bike or carpool!)

May Annual Membership Meeting
We are hoping to invite a thought provoking speaker to our annual May Membership Meeting.  As you know, we will be electing our new Board members and voting on an updated set of Bylaws. Please bring your ideas and input on future club meetings and activities you would like to participate in.   More details to follow.

Updated Website
The Board has voted to affiliate the Club with the California Democratic Council. One of the advantages of the affiliation is that the CDC is providing us with free web hosting. Our web committee has been working to make our site more informative and useful. Please check it out at   But be gentle—it is a work in progress!

Nominating Committee Seeking Board Candidates
Our Nominating Committee is evaluating recommendations for candidates for our next year’s Board. Any Club member who has an interest in serving as an Officer (4), or At-Large Members (6) on the Board should contact our Nominating Committee Chair Ric Lohman at Ric Lohman’s Email. Help build a better, more active Coastside Democrats Club.

Bylaws Committee Recommendations
The Bylaws Committee is preparing some recommendations for your approval at the Annual Meeting in May. Current members in good standing should look for an email in the next couple of weeks with their suggestions.

We hope you can join us at our meetings and volunteer at upcoming events.
Warmest regards,
